Assistant Coach for Women's Basketball

Canisius University invites interested and qualified persons to apply for the position of Assistant Coach for Women's Basketball. Canisius is a member of the Division I Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.  The Assistant Coach reports to the Head Coach for Women’s Basketball. There are 3 available Assistant Coach positions. 

Responsibilities:

  • Instruct and evaluate well-prepared student-athletes.
  • Help prepare for all team practices and be responsible for designated assignments.
  • Organize and execute individual skill instruction for players.
  • Provide players with feedback from practices and games utilizing video editing programs.
  • Assist with conditioning drills and workouts in conjunction with assigned strength training coach and other staff.
  • Support student-athletes with academic advisement, monitoring and development.
  • Recruit qualified student-athletes for the Canisius University women’s basketball program.
  • Develop scouting reports for opponents as assigned and evaluate game video.
  • Assist with team travel and recruiting trip arrangements.
  • Participate in all Canisius University women’s basketball camps.
  • Ensure the women’s basketball program is administered with constant commitment to compliance with all institutional, conference and NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Support other staff members with executing team community relations projects.
  • Participate in Department-wide staff, compliance education and other meetings as requested by the Director of Athletics.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Playing and/or coaching experience at the Division I level is preferred.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations is preferred.
  • Previous experience supervising, communicating with, and instructing student-athletes is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population of student-athletes, parents, coaches, and administrators.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license with a positive driving record per the University’s insurance provider (or upon moving to NYS obtain a NYS driver’s license within NYS DMV residency guidelines after hire).

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary: $55,000.00 to $85,000.00 annually 

Please note that the compensation information is a good faith estimate of the base pay for this position. The selected candidate’s actual base pay will be based on job-related, non-discriminatory factors including experience.  Information about the total compensation package for this position will be provided during the interview process.

This is a full-time, salaried position. Benefits are available the first of the month after the full-time employee’s date of hire and include – health, dental and vision insurance, life and long term disability insurance, and retirement plan enrollment is available to full-time employees with contribution from the University after one year. Paid holidays, vacation, personal leave and sick leave.  Tuition benefits are also available for full-time employees and their qualified dependents.
