The ACS accredited Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Canisius College invites applications for a tenure-track position in Biochemistry, to begin in August 2018. Applicants with a PhD in Biochemistry or closely related field will be considered. Postdoctoral experience is highly desirable. Applicants at the Assistant Professor level are preferred. Teaching responsibilities will be in Biochemistry and in Molecular Biology with laboratories. The successful candidate will have a strong interest in teaching at an undergraduate institution and directing undergraduate research projects. Canisius College offers competitive salaries and startup funds for research. This position is pending budgetary approval.
Canisius College strongly supports research with undergraduates and summer research funds are available to support both faculty and students. All department faculty are research active, and in a given summer, around 15 students work with faculty on research projects. The department is well equipped with equipment to support research and teaching. Additionally, quality teaching is a top priority of the department and many faculty are actively involved in developing novel teaching strategies. The college is located in Buffalo, an affordable city with many cultural amenities and historic attractions (see the Buffalo Niagara Visitors Center for information http://www.visitbuffaloniagara.com ). Buffalo is within easy driving distance to many additional cultural and scenic attractions including Toronto, Niagara Falls, Alleghany State Park, and the Adirondacks to name a few. In addition, the Buffalo Niagara International airport is served by all the major airlines and several low-cost airlines (Jet Blue, Southwest, etc.). In addition, although Buffalo has a reputation for high snowfall, the city is actually located north of the snow-belt area, providing access to several ski resorts.
Applicants must submit their cover letter, curriculum vitae, summary of research plans including how undergraduates will be involved and estimated start-up funds, copies of undergraduate and graduate transcripts, and a statement of teaching plans and philosophy.
