Office of Mission and Ministry

The Director of Campus Ministry advances college-wide conversations about the Jesuit Catholic dimensions at Canisius College and how these dimensions relate to the other elements of the college's mission. The Director facilitates activities and programs that support faculty, staff, and students in understanding and appropriating Canisius College's mission and its underlying vision. As Director of Campus Ministry, the individual provides comprehensive college-wide spiritual ministry, social justice and service programs.

Job Responsibilities:

 Supervisory Duties:

  • Supervises the following staff members and volunteer staff positions:
    • Associate Director of Campus Ministry
    • Spiritual Interns
    • Graduate Student Workers
    • Undergraduate Student Worker
    • Planning, assigning and directing work for entire department

Administrative Duties:

  • Chief executive; ultimately responsible for the department's initiatives
  • Budget development and oversight
  • Attendance at divisional meetings
  • Collaborative initiatives within division and College-at-Large
  • Interviewing, hiring and training of staff
  • Appraising individual and program performance
  • Ensures compliance with diocesan charter for Campus Ministry and for use of Chapel
  • Vision and direction of programming
  • Assessing learning goals
  • Collaboration with Canisius Jesuit community and the larger Ignatian family
  • Collaboration with Diocese of Buffalo and the USCCB

Project Manager Assignments:

  • Kairos Retreat Program
  • Senior retreat
  • Spiritual exercises in everyday Life
  • Co-Project Manager for social media and website development

All Campus Ministers will also serve in the following capacities:

  • Presence at one Sunday liturgy per week, Holy Days of Obligation, Mass of the Holy Spirit, Baccalaureate Mass and other liturgical events as needed
  • Integration of Ignatian exercises into programs
  • Presence at bi-weekly staff meetings
  • Maintain a budget for programs and conduct fund-raising when needed
  • Assess learning goals and program satisfaction for all executed programs
  • Offer prayers and reflections where appropriate
  • Provide Pastoral Care and Presence to students, faculty, alumni and staff as needed
  • Maintain pastoral presence and engagement to colleagues in a supportive atmosphere
  • Other duties as assigned by the director

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (M.A.) in Theology, Pastoral Studies or related field
  • A practicing and dedicated Catholic with a commitment to operate within the college’s Catholic and Jesuit mission and traditions
  • Experience with campus ministry (preferably higher education), young adult ministry or equivalent work experiences
  • Familiarity with and appreciation of Ignatian spirituality and mission
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others

Compensation and Benefits:

This is a full-time, 12-month position. Benefits are available the first of the month after the full-time employee’s date of hire and include – health, dental and vision insurance, life and long term disability insurance, and retirement plan enrollment is available to full-time employees with contribution from College after one year. Tuition benefits are also available for full-time employees and their qualified dependents.
