 Visiting Assistant Professor of Religious Studies & Theology

The Department of Religious Studies and Theology of Canisius College announces a one-year, non-renewable faculty position beginning fall 2023. We are seeking candidates whose primary area of teaching experience is in either Asian Religions, Judaism, or Islam. The teaching load is 4 courses a semester, but with two preps and relatively smaller class sizes. The position comes with limited travel funds for professional development. Candidates with a PhD or equivalent, or at the ABD stage, will be considered.

For the initial stage of review, we request a cover letter, curriculum vitae, list of graduate courses taken, and a statement of teaching philosophy that includes the candidate’s support of the college’s Jesuit mission. Candidates must also include a statement demonstrating their approach to diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and belonging in their role as a college professor. Candidates who advance to the later stage of review will be required to submit official graduate transcripts and three letters of reference. Review of completed applications will begin March 15, 2023 and continue until the position has been filled, pending final budgetary approval.

Benefits are available the first of the month after the full-time faculty’s date of hire and include health, dental and vision insurance, life and long term disability insurance. Retirement plan enrollment is available to this hire if the one-year waiting period can be waived based on proof of employment in higher education for at least one year full time within three years prior to hire date.  College contribution would not begin until proof of prior service is received.
