Director of Internships and Career Development
Wehle School of Business

Responsible for directing the co-curricular, undergraduate student professional development program in the Wehle School of Business, BUS-X. Focused on helping undergraduate business students make the college to career transition successfully through a series of developmentally progressive, hands-on experiences. Provides coordination and support for internships while maintaining strong employer connections.

This part-time position (25 hours per week) reports to the Dean of the Wehle School of Business.  The director works closely with: Director of Executive Education and Leadership Development, Assistant Dean of the Wehle School of Business, Executive in Residence for the Accounting Department, Department Chairs, Program Directors, and the Griff Center.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, organize, and manage events and activities to help students learn about the career paths, industries, and professions connected to Wehle School of Business majors
  • Direct the Undergraduate BUS-X program, including design, delivery, administration, and assessment of the program courses
    • Support the delivery of the BUS-X 101: Business in Action (freshmen course) with specific emphasis on helping students connect choices of academic major to various careers, industries, and professions
      • Lead some of the group sessions in the fall focused on majors and careers
      • Provide support for the dean and employer partners in the spring for the business immersion experience
    • Design and deliver content for BUS-X 201: Explore Business (sophomore course) including material on (1) career exploration through an informational interview, (2) preparation of a professional resume, (3) development of interview skills, and (3) building professional networking to students through a blend of face-to-face and technology-mediated models, with the support of alumni and employer experts as appropriate
      • Issue grades of pass/fail for students
    • [Starts fall 2020] Coordinate the undergraduate business experience requirement BUS-X 301: Experience Business; includes activities with both students and employers
      • Develop a process to track completion of internships, student consulting projects, service-learning, and other approved activities that engage students in actual business practice
      • Coordinate the process to verify requirements met and clear students for graduation
    • Working with the dean, assistant dean and the faculty Assurance of Learning Committee, develop a robust process to evaluate the program and gather data for assessment purposes; track student performance against learning objectives and make improvements as suggested by assessment results
  • Assist students as needed in exploring and securing internships, including career advising, resume review and interview preparation 
  • Help support external communications about the BUS-X program, including website updates and social media messaging
  • Participate in recruiting and admissions events
  • Other duties as assigned and appropriate

Required Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Other Characteristics:

  • Master’s degree in business, communications, higher education administration, or a related field
  • A minimum of five years of relevant work experience
    • Preferred experience in HR, training and development, leadership consulting, higher education, and/or career counseling
  • Current knowledge of the job search process for college graduates, employer campus recruiting activities, and strategies for securing highly competitive internships and entry level jobs
  • Strong communication skills and evidence the individual can communicate effectively with students, employers, advisory council members, faculty, and other college staff

Special Note - This person must hold a master’s because s/he will be delivering content for academic program requirements, evaluating student work, issuing grades, and assessing program performance.
