Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice

Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice

The Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice at Canisius College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice position, to begin in August 2018. We seek applicants with a PhD in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or closely related field. A J.D. (law degree) is not acceptable for this position.  Areas of specialization are open; however, those with research interest in race, gender and economic sources of injustice, juvenile justice, corrections or applied research methods are especially encouraged to apply.

We welcome candidates with interests in our humanistic core curriculum, which explores issues of diversity, ethics, global awareness, and social justice. We likewise welcome candidates with experience and expertise using inclusive strategies in working with students with a range of abilities and from diverse backgrounds.

Tenure-track faculty members have a 3-course per semester teaching load, are expected to participate in research and scholarly activities, provide academic advising to students, and engage in service to the department, university, and community.

Canisius College, a Catholic and Jesuit University, has as its foundation the fundamental values of academic excellence, leadership, faith, diversity, and social justice. The college is located in Buffalo, an affordable city with many cultural amenities and historic attractions (see the Buffalo Niagara Visitors Center for information http://www.visitbuffaloniagara.com ).  Buffalo is within easy driving distance to many additional cultural and scenic attractions including Toronto, Niagara Falls, Alleghany State Park, and the Adirondacks to name a few.  In addition, the Buffalo Niagara International airport is served by all the major airlines and several low-cost airlines (Jet Blue, Southwest, etc.).  In addition, although Buffalo has a reputation for high snowfall, the city is actually located north of the snow-belt area, providing access to several ski resorts.

Consideration of completed applications will begin in early January 2018.
